Six Flags Parks Take Part in Thrilling World Record Attempt
NEW YORK, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Guests, characters, team members, professional dancers and novices alike all put on their dancing shoes and sequined gloves at Six Flags parks across the U.S. and Mexico on Saturday, October 24, performing "Thriller" simultaneously as part of Thrill the World, a global record-breaking attempt to recruit the most people simultaneously recreating the dance steps made famous by music icon, Michael Jackson. More than 3,100 dancers at Six Flags parks learned the moves -- erupting in a concurrent Saturday night dance party at 12:30 am GMT (8:30 pm EDT/ 7:30 pm CDT/5:30 PDT).
Thrill the World events were held at Six Flags Over Texas (Arlington, TX), Six Flags America (Bowie, MD), Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio, TX), Six Flags Great America (Gurnee, IL), Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (Louisville, KY), Six Flags St. Louis (Eureka, MO), and Six Flags Mexico (Mexico City). The combined numbers of participants at Six Flags parks will join with participant numbers from Thrill the World events held throughout the globe to achieve the goal of 10,000 Thrill the World dancers, breaking the Guinness World Record of "Thriller" performers.
Celebrities and Thrill the World VIPs joined in the celebrations at various Six Flags parks, including Thrill the World founder Ines Markelle, who selected Six Flags Mexico for her attempt at this year's record. At Six Flags America, R&B recording artist Omarion took part following a Michael Jackson tribute event and concert at the park earlier in the day. The University of Texas at San Antonio Spirit Team lead the dance at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the reigning Mrs. Illinois Anji Meidel danced at Six Flags Great America.
Ines Markelle, founder of Thrill the World said of her experience dancing at Six Flags Mexico, "It was the most amazing night of my life. To see that many people dancing, singing, cheering and having fun was overwhelming. I can't wait to do it again."
This is the first year Six Flags has joined Thrill the World at parks across the country. In 2008, dancers at Six Flags Great America joined more than 4,000 people from 10 nations (Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Scotland, United States of America, and Wales) to simultaneously perform "Thriller" as part of Thrill the World.
Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS® takes place weekends through November 1 with thrills by day and chills by night. Visit sixflags.com for more information and park operating hours.
