Author Keith Stern to Appear at Opening of 'MR. RIGHT' Friday Night at Laemmle Sunset 5 with British Director Jacqui Morris
Stern's new book 'Queers in History' and British film coincide with Gay History Month and fight to reverse Proposition 8
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- October is not just for Halloween. It's also Gay History Month and the producers of a new film are offering several treats in its honor, "Mr. Right" opens Friday October 9, at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theater in West Hollywood. The film, directed by Jacqui Morris, explores the lives of several couples, gay, straight, and bi in modern day London. To celebrate the opening, author Keith Stern will be autographing copies of his new, best-selling book, "Queers in History" in the lobby. The book has just been published by BenBella Books.
"Queers in History" ( www.QueersInHistory.com) documents over 900 prominent historical figures who were gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. "I think of it as a handbook to guide you through the wilderness of history to find the hidden gay people," says Stern, who is also planning a one-man show on the material in his book.
The idea for a one-man show was born in the days following the recent Emmy Awards. Stern friend, actor Andy Serkis ("Lord of the Rings," "King Kong") was nominated for his performance in the PBS show "Little Dorrit," which won Best Miniseries. Serkis is also an accomplished theatre director and suggested Stern's book might make a good basis for a live show. "Serkis offered to direct me, so I've begun work on a script. Then I'll head off to London, where he's based, and work with him to develop the show," Stern said. "Queers in History" is now on sale online and in bookstores worldwide, including Barnes & Noble and Borders. "Mr. Right" is a Mugshoot Production which can be found at (www.queryyourself.com).
"Mr. Right" director Morris will be flying in from London for the opening night and participate in a question and answer interview after the screenings. She is a strong supporter of the ongoing battle to reverse Proposition 8 which recently passed banning same-sex marriage in California.
