WEGENER(R) Receives Order from Educational Media Foundation for Additional iPump(R) Audio Media Servers
Broadcaster Also Adds MP3 Support Licenses for Two National Radio Networks
DULUTH, Ga., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced that Educational Media Foundation (EMF) has ordered more than 100 iPump 6420 audio media servers for ongoing expansion and replacement of its file-based and live radio broadcasting networks. In addition, EMF has ordered MP3 audio support licenses for its iPump 6400 and iPump 6420 servers, which will be used to implement advertisement and programming playout verification, monitor station broadcasts, and backhaul specific programs for archiving. The orders were placed in WEGENER's third quarter with delivery spanning WEGENER's third and fourth quarters.
With more than 600 FM radio stations and translators, EMF broadcasts Christian music programming to audiences across the United States through its two networks, Air 1 and K-LOVE. The acquisition of the new iPump 6420s and the MP3 support licenses are part of a long-term digital upgrade strategy for the not-for-profit organization, which is based in Rocklin, California.
EMF's central operation uses WEGENER's COMPEL network control and MediaPlan content management systems for control, scheduling, and distribution of programming, advertising, and promotional content to WEGENER iPump 6400 media servers and Unity 4600 media receivers.
"We plan to take full advantage of new digital technologies to maximize our operational efficiencies. Combining DVB-S2 modulation, point-to-multipoint data distribution, and file-based broadcasts is also creating excellent cost savings opportunities. For example, just from our recent VSAT and DVB-S2 conversion we anticipate a return on investment within 36 months," explained Alan Guthrie, Engineering Advisor, Educational Media Foundation.
"Radio networks like K-LOVE and Air 1 often rely on unmanned sites for broadcasting, so reliable playout and monitoring are critical," said Ned L. Mountain, President and COO of WEGENER. "Using the iPump 6420's off-air tuner and low cost encoding option to record and backhaul broadcasts from each site will greatly enhance EMF's monitoring capabilities. We appreciate their continued confidence in WEGENER as they continue their network upgrade."
The WEGENER iPump 6420 audio media server is specifically designed for regionalizing affiliate radio broadcasts. It is an integrated digital satellite receiver, IP router, and multi-media server that uses playlists and network commands to generate custom audio channels from stored audio programs. Its next generation architecture integrates file-based program distribution with live programming, seamlessly blending audio outputs through the use of audio fades, mixes, and prepositioned station liners. An optional on-board AM/FM tuner provides an integrated technology to provide end-to-end advertisement and programming playout verification, by capturing and recording the local off-air signal and sending the encoded file to the network for comparison.
