WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- "I want to be judged on the totality of my life," says Marion Barry during his exclusive interview with Chris Core to be broadcast on WDCW-TV, DC50. "Weekend News with Chris Core" will devote two half-hours to the former controversial mayor. Part 1 will be broadcast on Saturday, August 8 at 6:30PM (repeat Sunday, August 9 at 10AM) and part 2 will run Saturday, August 15 at 6:30PM (repeat Sunday, August 16 at 10AM). This is one of the few occasions in which Mayor Marion Barry has sat down with a local broadcast journalist to answer all questions regarding his storied political and personal journey.

Mayor Marion Barry was the second elected Mayor of Washington, DC from 1979 to 1991, and again as the fourth mayor from 1995 to 1999. He was the target of a high-profile 1990 arrest on drug charges, which precluded him from seeking re-election that year. After he was convicted of the charges, Marion Barry served six months in a federal prison. He then returned to politics as a DC city councilmember in 1992 and was again elected the Mayor of Washington DC from 1995 to 1999. Today, Barry again serves on the city council representing Ward 8, which comprises Anacostia, Congress Heights, Washington Highlands and other neighborhoods.

During part one of this DC50 interview with Core, Marion Barry discusses what he feels are his top accomplishments as a community activist and elected official since he came to DC in 1965. He also reveals what he feels are some of his most pronounced failures. During this program, Marion Barry also goes into more detail about the highly-publicized drug arrest in 1990; he briefly discusses his most recent headline-making scandal involving an ex-girlfriend; and his problems with drug and alcohol abuse.

"Weekend News with Chris Core" premiered last August, 2008. The program runs at least once per month on Saturday evenings on WDCW, DC50. Chris Core has been a mainstay in the Washington, DC radio and media community since the early 1970's. He hosted various programs on AM630 WMAL radio from 1974 until 2008. In 2008, he joined XM Radio's POTUS (President of the United States). Also in 2008, he began as a commentator for WTOP-FM. His "Core Values" commentary on WTOP runs three times daily. His "Core Values" commentary won the prestigious National Edward R Murrow Award for Writing in 2009.
