Sakar Signs Licensing Agreement with The Weather Channel(R)

Emergency Preparedness Products, Weatherproof Cameras & Binoculars Included

EDISON, N.Y., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Sakar International today announced a licensing agreement with The Weather Channel for a series of emergency preparedness products and weatherproof electronics and optics that will be released in Q1 2010. Products will include emergency crank and battery radios, flashlights, and portable power chargers; weatherproof digital cameras, camcorders and binoculars utilizing technology from Sakar's Vivitar division; and related weatherproof cases. All products will carry The Weather Channel branding. The deal was brokered by Joy Tashjian Marketing Group (JTMG), the exclusive licensing representative for The Weather Channel.

Some of the emergency preparedness products developed under the license will work in tandem with some of the latest technology from The Weather Channel, expanding the service's customized weather update capabilities. All products will be sold through Sakar's extensive retail channels, including mass market, mid-tier and specialty stores.

"These new products will continue our efforts to extend our brand with a variety of weather-related items for consumers," said Shari Pace, VP of Licensing for The Weather Channel. "Sakar's wide distribution, strong track record in licensed product development, and prior experience with many of these product categories will help us reach the maximum number of people with a highly marketable selection of merchandise."

"The Weather Channel is arguably the most trusted name in weather forecasting. Their brand carries a lot of weight," said Liza Abrams, Sakar Vice President of Licensing. "This partnership gives us the opportunity to leverage the brand and all its assets to deliver new value-added products to the consumer marketplace."

"This is a landmark deal in bringing consumers high-quality emergency relief products with The Weather Channel name, one of the best-known to the general public," said Joy Tashjian, President of JTMG. "It is critically important that consumers know they can trust these branded preparedness goods in times of crisis."

Sakar's licensing portfolio also includes Kodak, Made for iPod, Crayola, LeapFrog, Sanrio's Hello Kitty, and other high-profile brand franchises.
