MovieHatch.com Launch Breaks New Ground - Integrating Traditional Film Production Into Online Process

MovieHatch.com "where film and tv ideas hatch"

NEW YORK, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- MovieHatch.com, the film and television production company that sets audiences at the center of the movie-making process will put its mandate in motion with a feature film screenplay competition that could lead to a production deal of up to $10,000,000. The contest encourages budding filmmakers and screenwriters to enter video pitches and synopses which will post on the MovieHatch website. The deadline is September 15th, 2009 and the corresponding full-length scripts are due into MovieHatch Productions by September 17th, 2009. Visitors to the site will become "Public Producers(TM)" by voting on the pitches. A panel of prominent industry professionals will judge the Public Producers top ten selections, with each having an opportunity to go into production or development.

"The goal of MovieHatch is to break down the traditional barriers by engaging audiences to bring them content they actually want to see. Aspiring screenwriters and filmmakers truly have a chance to bring their projects to accomplished producers and executives to whom they might not otherwise have access. Even the entries that don't win first place afford the screenwriters and filmmakers an incredible opportunity because they still may spark the interest of one of our judges and partners," says MovieHatch founder and CEO Lauren Williams. "This is a truly new interactive approach to the production and distribution of original content."

The panel of over 25 entertainment industry judges includes:

John Cheng - Head of production for Brett Ratner's production company Rat Entertainment

Josh Weinstock - V.P. Development, Red Wagon Entertainment
Meghann Collins - Head of Feature Development - Varsity Pictures
Trevor Engelson - Producer/Manager - Underground Films

Scott Neustadter - Screenwriter, "The Pink Panther 2", "500 Days of Summer"

Paul Pender - Head of Infinity TV, Screenwriter - Pierce Brosnan's "Evelyn", "Nacho Libre"

Berry Welsh - Creative Executive, Tribeca Productions

Jeffrey Reddick - Screenwriter, "Final Destination", "Tamara", "Day of the Dead"

Sean Robins - Producer - Broken Road Productions

Kirsten Smith - Screenwriter - "Legally Blonde", "Ugly Truth", "The House Bunny"

"If there had been something like MovieHatch's competition when I was starting out, saying "hey, we need ideas and talent", I would have been at home with my video camera and typing up my original stories to submit to MovieHatch so they could let people know that I have something to give," says actor James Marsden ("Enchanted", "X-Men", "27 Dresses").

One of MovieHatch's greatest advantages is the impressive roster of partnerships that has been secured with some of Hollywood's top production companies. Potentially, one of these organizations could bring the winning screenplay from page to screen. These production companies include: Rat Entertainment, founded in 1997 by director/producer Brett Ratner; Broken Road Productions, founded in the summer of 2005, headed by Sean Robins and Todd Garner, former head of production at Disney; Varsity Pictures, founded April 2007 by director/producer Brian Robbins and producer Sharla Sumpter Bridgett; Underground Films and Management, co-founded in 2001 by Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson, Tribeca Productions, and Red Wagon Entertainment, which has produced such films as "Memoirs of a Geisha," "Jarhead" and "R.V.", among others.

"Hollywood has been in need of a new approach to production and marketing for years and MovieHatch is taking the digital approach to the next level, not just by building audiences for original material in a promising way, but by including them in the process," says Ratner.

To that end, the Public Producers will not go uncompensated for their participation - MovieHatch will offer numerous online giveaway promotions surrounding the feature film competition. "It's our way of saying thank-you because without the voting public, these projects wouldn't get made," says Williams.
