Community Stepping Up to Make KEM Live @ Mack & Third Possible, But More Help Needed

DETROIT, Aug. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Community partners, corporate sponsors and entertainers are stepping forward to donate their time, talents, manpower and money to make KEM Live @ Mack & Third: A Call to Service a successful food drive and fundraiser for the homeless and the nonprofit organizations that serve them. However, more sponsors, volunteers and equipment are needed. Taking place at Cass Park in Detroit on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 2 p.m., Motown Recording Artist KEM and Special Guests Bill Moss, LaShell Griffin, HotSauce, Selfmeyi, Monica Blair and Savallace to name a few will collectively provide five hours of free entertainment. In addition, KEM (who was once homeless) will give a motivational message followed by a meal to the homeless at a private event earlier in the day and the Department of Health and Wellness Promotion will offer a laundry list of free health related services during the concert event. Admission for the public is only a canned good. It will also be broadcast live on the worldwide web at www.kemistryrecords.com.

Pepsi, Mix 92.3 and WJLB FM98 are the presenting sponsors of KEM Live @ Mack & Third. This event is also made possible by Bank of America; DTE Foundation; McDonald's; Department of Health and Wellness Promotion; City of Detroit and Office of Joann Watson; FOX TV2; WTVS-TV56; Michigan Chronicle; Real Times Media; Project Helping Hands; Greektown Casinos; Renaissance Unity; Gleaners Food Bank, TV Lounge; Cass Technical High School; ReDot Waste Management; and Michigan Retired NFL Players.

"Overall, when people hear about KEM Live @ Mack & Third, they're immediate response is 'Count me in!'" said Toya Hankins, manager of KEM and president of Project Producers, LLC. "However, understandably, due to the challenges companies are facing in these hard economic times, we have not received the level of commitment or contributions that we expected, but we believe everyone can do a little. So, once again, we implore companies to step forward to assist in this worthy cause."

The purpose of KEM Live @ Mack & Third is to gather food for the area's homeless shelters and food banks; to gather donations for nonprofits that assist displaced persons; to provide a getaway for Detroiters from the stresses of the economy; to feed the homeless and others in need; and to encourage people to volunteer and give.

All t-shirt, beverage and financial proceeds from this event will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit; YWCA of Metropolitan Detroit - Interim House; Gleaners Food Bank; Transformation Detroit; Sobriety House; LIFT; Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries; Neighborhood Services Organization; and Harbor Light.

Ms. Hankins advised, "The show will go on, one way or another. Hopefully, others will step up to the plate to help ease the burden we all are facing in today's economy by working together on a project such as this."

Monetary and in-kind donations of goods and services are still needed in the following areas in order to make this event successful: Food Service (Prepared meals and drinks); Hospitality (chairs, tents); Event Production (generators, Portajohns, etc.); Audio/Video Services (video screens, staging); and Crowd Control (security, stanchions).

For more information or to become a partner/sponsor of this event and receive a sponsorship packet, please contact Ms. Hankins or Richard Walker at 313.883.1118. Please send monetary donations to Damascus Entertainment, P.O. BOX 21953, Detroit, MI 48203 or online at paypal.com using kemliveatmacknthird@kemistryrecords.com.
