The innovative undertaking represents the latest in an emerging trend where large, traditional news organizations implement Livestream to extend the reach, interactivity and relevance of their broadcast programming to online audiences, without boosting production costs.
In this latest marriage of traditional broadcasting and the Internet, FOX 5 streams Good Day Live, Online! every morning from 9 to 10 a.m. EDT. The show is hosted by FOX 5 technology and environmental reporter Brett Larson who also produces the online edition of the morning show using Livestream Procaster for encoding, 3D effects and showing images and video on the Web to the live audience. Livestream Studio is used for graphics and to play clips. Remote interviews are conducted using Skype and captured live using Livestream Procaster.
"This shows that Livestream is being adopted by one of the most progressive media companies who are looking to increase visibility via live channels on the Web," explained Livestream CEO and co-founder Max Haot. "The presenter can do it all."
Media power Gannett Inc. is also "livestreaming" content from their various regional newspapers and USA Today to the Web world using the online broadcasting destination's simple and fully featured services. Other content company customers include C-Span.
Procaster is a free software download available at www.livestream.com/procaster that allows digital media creators and producers to create the highest quality, live streaming video content. The one-click streaming service also lets presenters include whatever is on their computer screens live, including presentations, images, and even video and graphics-intensive video games.
With Livestream, anybody on the Internet who can connect a video camera to a computer can instantly stream live video worldwide, 24x7, via their own Livestream.com channels or to video players embedded on their own websites or social networks. To date, more than 300,000 people have registered and launched live video channels using Livestream (formerly Mogulus) since its introduction in 2007.
Livestream recently announced that more than 1,000 producers and media companies are now using Livestream Pro since its first introduction just five months ago. Well known Pro users include the World Economic Forum and "The Dog Whisperer" Cesar Millan.
The Good Day Live Online show (http://www.myfoxny.com/) has featured such celebrity guests as Busta Rhymes and Matthew Modine. Fox 5 in NY is also using Livestream to provide breaking news and weather broadcasts.
