Hearst Television Stations Earn Three National Edward R. Murrow Awards
NEW YORK, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Hearst Television Inc. stations KCCI-TV, Des Moines, and WMUR-TV, Manchester, N.H., have been honored with national Edward R. Murrow Awards, given by the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). KCCI received two honors, for Best Newscast and Overall Excellence, while WMUR was honored for Best Newscast, in their respective market-size categories.
The stations were recognized in part for vital coverage of major weather events impacting their regions. Judges cited KCCI's expanded hour-long 6 p.m. newscast during the 2008 Iowa floods, and WMUR's live, on-the-scene coverage of a July 2008 tornado that damaged more than 100 homes throughout New Hampshire.
The latest national Murrow Awards follow 19 regional Murrow Awards earned this year by Hearst Television stations, in addition to a Peabody Award and a fifth consecutive USC Walter Cronkite Award, both for political news coverage. The national Murrow awards are to be presented in New York in October.
