Fine Art and Funky Blues Launch Summer Celebrations

Fine Art and Funky Blues Launch Summer Celebrations

Day to Benefit Mount Prospect Food Pantry

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill., June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blues fans and residents will enjoy more than just great music at Mount Prospect's Blues on the Green, June 20, 2 pm to 10:30 pm. They will also find unique pottery, jewelry, paintings and more at the Fine Arts Festival also taking place on Emerson Street and Busse Avenue that day.

Nine full hours of great entertainment at a bargain price of one donated can or box of non-perishable food for the Mount Prospect Food Pantry makes this event a winner. Last year, attendees generously filled the food pantry. With the increased demand for food, event planners are hoping to double the amount of donations this year.

"Last summer's turnout exceeded our expectations. The steady crowd of all ages had a good time enjoying the music. It was the perfect venue to help our community by tapping into the generosity of our residents," said Maura El Metennani, the Village's Public Information Officer.

Blues on the Green's lineup includes Chicago favorites, the Tom Holland Duo; Blues Express featuring Rodney Brown; The Chicago Blues Divas featuring Mz. Peachez, Joanne Graham and Chick Rodgers; Sir Walter Scott & The World Band featuring: Willie White; and Big James and The Chicago Playboys.

Headliner, Big James, a former member of the Buddy Guy's Blues Band, has performed worldwide with the master bluesman and also appeared on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show.". The Chicago Playboys rocked the main stage of the Chicago Blues Festival. Big James has also shared a stage with Eric Clapton, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Public Announcement, Dan Aykroyd, Larry Coryell & Lou Rawls.

Blues Bar, event sponsor, searched for a diverse group of performers that have a large Chicago following. "We are proud to sponsor the Blues on the Green as a chance to showcase the great Chicago blues performers. We want to make this event the premier blues fest in the Northwest suburbs," said Errol Oztekin, Blues Bar owner.

Sharing the day with Blues on the Green is the Fine Arts Festival. This juried exhibition features a variety of paintings, sculptures, photography, pottery, glass, and jewelry. The exhibit runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Blues on the Green, along with our other downtown events such as the Downtown Block Party, Fall Festival, and Farmers' Market, will continue to encourage everyone to be a part of Mount Prospect," said Village Manager Michael Janonis.
