Netflix Promotes Andrew Rendich to New Position of Chief Service and DVD Operations Officer
LOS GATOS, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), the world's largest online movie rental service, today announced the promotion of Andrew Rendich to the position of Chief Service and DVD Operations Officer, a role in which he is responsible for operations engineering, nationwide shipping and receiving and customer service. He will continue to report to Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings.
Mr. Rendich, 41, joined Netflix as a software developer in 1999, the year the company's subscription business was launched. Through a series of assignments in systems development and engineering services, he rose to the rank of vice president of operations in 2007, overseeing all aspects of the company's 58 geographically dispersed distribution centers, which ship more than two million DVDs a day via the United States Postal Service.
Mr. Rendich's new role reflects, among other things, his recent assumption of the Netflix customer service function, based at the company's national call center in Hillsboro, Ore.
"DVD operations and customer service are two of the most important ways we touch our more than 10 million subscribers," said Mr. Hastings. "Andy's expertise and leadership in this area have been a major factor in our ability to scale the Netflix business over the last decade and a principal reason we're able to delight subscribers day in and day out."
Mr. Rendich oversees more than 2,500 employees, who account for the vast majority of people employed by the company. His primary focus has been on constant improvement to the Netflix service through increasingly automated hub operations and efficient direct labor. Automation led by Mr. Rendich has added significant speed to the company shipping operations, replacing legacy processes that inserted 650 DVDs per hour into Netflix mailers with the capability to insert more than 4,000 in that time.
He also oversees the company's relationship with the USPS, with which Netflix spends more than $450 million annually to deliver its iconic red envelopes.
