Alberto Santini Lara Named Director of TV Azteca's Flagship Azteca 13
-Responsibilities Include Oversight of All Production for Azteca 13
-Move Marks Further Differentiation Between National Networks Azteca 13 and Azteca 7
-Rodrigo Fernandez Named Director of Azteca 7, Oriented Toward Younger Upscale Adults
MEXICO CITY, May 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TV Azteca, S.A. de C.V. (BMV: TVAZTCA; Latibex: XTZA), one of the two largest producers of Spanish-language television programming in the world, announced today the appointment of Alberto Santini Lara as Director of Azteca 13, reporting directly to company CEO Mario San Roman.
The appointment marks a move toward further differentiation between Azteca 13 and Azteca 7, as part of a strengthening of the company's creative process. Azteca 13 is the showcase network for Mexican families, with mostly in-house production including novelas, while Azteca 7 is oriented toward younger and more upscale audiences, and focuses on a mix between locally-produced and imported productions. The move also better aligns production at Azteca Novelas through original TV Azteca content that is aired on Azteca 13 and Azteca America.
"We're excited to have Alberto with increased programming and production responsibility. His track record with Azteca America and Univision has been strong with primetime programming and production and we look forward to his talent for innovative content at Azteca 13," said Mr. San Roman.
Alberto Santini, who has an MBA from Stanford University, worked for eight years at Univision as an alumni of the company's unique executive training program. He held several high-level positions there, including Director of Programming, where he oversaw the development of hit shows, including the Spanish-language version of "Desperate Housewives."
Alberto Santini's new responsibilities will be added to his current role of Executive Vice President of Programming and Production at Azteca America, where year-on-year primetime household ratings have risen 35% and 44%, respectively, for 4Q 2008 and 1Q 2009 since his arrival in October 2008.
As part of his responsibilities for programming on Azteca 13 and Azteca America, Alberto Santini has been appointed the executive directly responsible for Azteca Novelas, where TV Azteca produces over 1,300 hours of novelas per year, as well as oversight responsibility for all Azteca 13 productions.
Rodrigo Fernandez will concentrate on Azteca 7 and will have oversight responsibility for all Azteca 7 productions as part of the strategy to further differentiate the upscale, younger-oriented network from Azteca 13. Azteca 7 has had strong success with its network news, as well as imported series and new productions. Azteca 7 is a key strategic element of TV Azteca as more viewers migrate to Mexico's middle class.
