Actor Eric Close, of CBS' 'Without A Trace,' to Take Part in Event Announcing Major Grant From Verizon Foundation to First National Museum Dedicated to Law Enforcement

WASHINGTON, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Actor Eric Close, of CBS-TV's "Without A Trace," will talk with Lincoln Multicultural Middle School students about civic engagement on Monday (May 4) at 11 a.m. as part of the National Law Enforcement Museum's school-based educational program. Project Citizen, a curriculum developed by the Center for Civic Education, teaches students how to influence public policy by learning the processes of state and local government, community involvement, and monitoring and influencing policy decisions. Representatives of the museum and Verizon will announce a significant grant to the museum to fund educational and interactive technology programs focusing on interdisciplinary studies including domestic violence prevention.

BACKGROUND:

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, supports the advancement of literacy and K-12 education through its free educational Web site, Thinkfinity.org, and fosters awareness and prevention of domestic violence. The Verizon Foundation is partnering with the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund to develop educational and interactive technology programs for the National Law Enforcement Museum, a high-tech, interactive museum scheduled to break ground in the fall of 2010 in Washington, DC's Judiciary Square.
