World Health Organization fears global epidemic
Breaking News
Mexico's government has closed schools as well as museums, libraries, and state-run theaters, in Mexico City to stop a swine flu outbreak authorities say may have killed as many as 60 people.
World Health officials are concerned that a global flu epidemic could spread from the city of 20 million.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say tests show some of the Mexico victims died from the same new strain of swine flu that sickened eight people in Texas and California. At no time were any of the people in contact with pigs, which is the usual way of contracting this form of flu. However these cases did not prove fatal. It's a new strain that combines genetic material from pigs, birds and humans.
