SHERMAN OAKS, Calif., April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Society of Singers (SOS), which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has lined up Alan Bergman, the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., Renee Olstead, Steve Tyrell, Tata Vega and Paul Williams to perform at SOS' presentation of the 18th ELLA Award to Herb Alpert and Lani Hall. Alpert and Hall will also perform at the event, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton on May 18, 2009, and include a raffle along with dinner. The award will be presented to Alpert and Hall by Quincy Jones.

Founded in 1984, the Society of Singers is a nonprofit organization that offers comprehensive services to meet the emergency financial needs of professional singers worldwide. Named after its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald, the ELLA Award is given to singers whose significant musical accomplishments are equaled by their dedication to charitable and humanitarian causes both local and international. Previous recipients of the award, besides Ms. Fitzgerald herself, include Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, Placido Domingo, Elton John, Johnny Mathis and Andy Williams.

Herb Alpert, a legendary trumpet player, bandleader, producer and record executive, has sold more than 75 million albums and won seven Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year for his signature song with the Tijuana Brass, "A Taste of Honey." His classics also include the Number One hit "This Guy's in Love with You," on which Alpert sang lead vocals. Lani Hall, his Grammy-winning wife of more than thirty years, began her career as the lead singer with Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, and has recorded a string of solo albums in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Alpert and Hall recently released "Anything Goes," their first recording project together as artists. Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, Alpert and Hall have also spent the last two decades working extensively to support the arts and fund arts education.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the non-profit Society of Singers Emergency Relief Fund and the Scholarship Fund. Please visit the SOS online auction at universalmusicstore.com. For more information about the Society of Singers, please consult www.singers.org or call (818) 995-7100.
