Robert Cooper and Brad Wright to Receive 2009 LEO Outstanding Achievement Award
LOS ANGELES, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures is proud to congratulate Robert Cooper and Brad Wright on their selection to receive a 2009 LEO Award for Outstanding Achievement. Cooper and Wright are receiving the honor for the global attention and interest in British Columbia film and television attracted by their achievements with the Stargate franchise. The pair is currently in production on SGU: Stargate Universe.
SGU marks the third collaboration for the show creators who previously worked together on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. The sixteenth season and third evolution of the popular franchise, SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves after they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. Faced with meeting the most basic needs of food, water and air, the group must unlock the secrets of the ship's Stargate to survive. The danger, adventure and hope they find on board the Destiny will reveal the heroes and villains among them.
The cast includes Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Ming-Na and Lou Diamond Phillips.
SGU: Stargate Universe will debut in the United States as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution. Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series.
The LEO Awards were established in 1998 to celebrate excellence in British Columbia film and television. The Awards are a project of the Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia. The Celebration and Gala Ceremonies will take place May 8th and 9th in Vancouver.
