Plymouth Rock Studios Highlighted in the 'Business Of Show Business'

PLYMOUTH, Mass., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Plymouth Rock Studios, a $500-million film and television studio complex slated to open in 2010, was highlighted by the Motion Picture Association of America in the recently released Economic Impact of the Motion Picture & Television Industry on the United States report, as the film and television studio in Massachusetts to "have positive effects on community development and local real estate markets." Dan Glickman, Chairman and CEO of MPAA, released the report on April 21, 2009, at the Business of Show Business Symposium in Washington, DC.

With the help of tax incentive that were put in place in Massachusetts, there have been 17 major movies filmed in the Commonwealth, with $545 million in direct spending. All of these were enticed to come to Massachusetts without the benefit of soundstages or other production infrastructure in the state.

Joe DiLorenzo, CFO of Plymouth Rock Studios, stated, "Being mentioned in the Economic Impact Report shows that Plymouth Rock Studios and film productions in general are positive to the state, local communities and the small business associated with film and television productions."

The report states that "$38.2 billion in payments went to U.S. vendors and suppliers, small businesses and entrepreneurs from film and television productions, with over 115,000 businesses in all 50 states -- 81 percent of which employ fewer than 10 people -- comprise the motion picture and television industry. One quarter of the businesses are sole proprietorships."

Plymouth Rock Studios is projected to create over 2,000 high-income jobs and provide the infrastructure for the sustained growth of the entertainment industry in New England. The Economic Impact Report also highlighted that in 2007, "the average salary of production employees is $74,700, which is nearly 76 percent higher than the average salary nation-wide". The Studios will have 14 soundstages and a 10-acre back lot, plus production offices, post-production facilities, a theater, hotel, and an amenity village, along with being the world's first LEED(R)-certified, environmentally friendly studio complex.
