Michigan NAACP to Mark 100-year Anniversary With Gospel Fest 2009
DETROIT, April 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Famed musician Kanye West, actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, filmmaker John Singleton and comedian Anthony Anderson have one thing in common. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)'s ACT-SO program (Afro Academic, Cultural, and Technological -Scientific Olympics) helped them on the way to their illustrious careers.
In April, Detroiters will have an opportunity to see tomorrow's stars as the Michigan NAACP celebrates its 100-year anniversary with Gospel Fest 2009 at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit.
Gospel Fest 2009 takes place on Saturday, April 25 at Fellowship Chapel, located at 7707 W. Outer Drive in Detroit. This outstanding musical event will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person with group discounts available.
This intense competition will feature solo singers and gospel groups, church choirs, college and youth ensembles, dancers and local recording artists. The top three winners will receive cash prizes. Proceeds from this fundraiser will assist Michigan students competing in the national ACT-SO competition at the NAACP's National Convention in New York City, July 8-10.
This production is being presented by the Vinson Chapel A.M.E. Church, in collaboration with the Michigan State Conference NAACP and the Interfaith Center for Racial Justice.
