Eutelsat's KabelKiosk Digital Cable Platform Makes its Move to EUROBIRD(TM) 9A
Eutelsat's KabelKiosk Digital Cable Platform Makes its Move to EUROBIRD(TM) 9A
PARIS, April 15/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The KabelKiosk platform of digital channels operated by the
German subsidiary of Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) initiates
today broadcasts from the EUROBIRD(TM) 9A satellite which went into service
on 24 February at 9 degrees East.
Dual illumination of the platform will be carried for a
three-month period on EUROBIRD(TM) 9A (9 degrees East) and ATLANTIC BIRD(TM)
2 (8 degrees West). This will enable cable operators to complete the
migration to Eutelsat's 9 degrees East position and secure room for
significant expansion of digital channels and services for independent cable
operators in continental Europe, notably Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Denmark and Luxembourg.
KabelKiosk is a headend-in-the-sky cable platform that
provides operators with a diverse array of digital channels and services. By
offering a multiplicity of German and international content, Eutelsat
Deutschland's platform is making a significant contribution to the full
transition to digital of cable markets in the regions it serves. Independent
cable operators already using KabelKiosk include TeleColumbus, one of
Germany's three largest cable companies.
Almost 200,000 homes now subscribe to KabelKiosk, with the
number of channels increasing over the last 12 months from 70 to 120. New
additions to the basic package of commercial channels that will join
KabelKiosk from April 15 include CNBC, Russia Today and TVE Internacional.
Martina Rutenbeck, Managing Director of Eutelsat Deutschland
commented on the move to EUROBIRD(TM) 9A: "With the room for expansion that
our 9 degrees East neighbourhood can offer cable operators, all requirements
are assembled for significant growth of subscribers, channels and cable
partners for KabelKiosk. We are very excited by this new step in our digital
cable product and the increased contribution it can make to supporting the
transition of cable into a fully digital environment."
