Comcast Launches Super Fast 50 Mbps High-Speed Internet Service to Small and Medium-Sized Businesses in Greater Boston Area
Comcast Launches Super Fast 50 Mbps High-Speed Internet Service to Small and Medium-Sized Businesses in Greater Boston Area
BOSTON, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, the nation's leading provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today announced that small- and medium-sized businesses in the Greater Boston area now have access to some of the fastest Internet speeds available with the launch of next generation DOCSIS 3.0 technology. Comcast's leap from broadband to wideband catapults small and medium-sized companies to the cutting edge of new technology, enabling them to boost their productivity and drive efficiencies during these challenging economic times.
Starting this week, Comcast will offer two new tiers of wideband service - Deluxe at 50 Mbps and Premium at 22 Mbps - to small and medium-sized businesses in more than 300 communities in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
"Faster Internet service and cutting edge technology are important differentiators for small and medium-sized businesses focused on increasing their productivity and efficiency to beat the competition," said Peter Marsh, Vice President of Business Services for Comcast's Greater Boston Region. "Comcast is committed to helping local companies get ahead in the marketplace by providing a better business technology solution that offers faster Internet speeds, dedicated support and significantly more value than they can get from the phone company."
As part of the wideband deployment, Comcast introduced two new speed tiers to Business Class customers:
-- Deluxe, offering up to 50 Mbps of download speed and up to 10 Mbps of
upload speed at $189.95 a month.
-- Premium, offering up to 22 Mbps of download speed and up to 5 Mbps of
upload speed at $99.95 a month.
With the new Deluxe speed, Business Class customers can download a 500 MB set of digital x-rays in approximately one-and-a-half minutes, a task that would take about nine-and-a-half minutes on a 3 Mbps DSL service from the phone company. Additionally, Deluxe customers can download 250 MB architectural plans in under a minute, compared to almost five minutes with 3 Mbps DSL service. The Deluxe Internet tier also makes uploading files faster, enabling a customer to e-mail a 60 MB graphics file in less than a minute.
Wideband is just the latest enhancement available to Comcast Business Class Internet customers. As part of their service, Business Class customers already receive Microsoft Communication Services, allowing small- and medium-sized companies the same level of sophistication as large companies with internal IT departments, offering fully synced e-mail, shared calendars, contacts and tasks, as well as additional benefits like firewall protection, domain and McAfee Security Suite, all backed by specialized technical support representatives available 24/7.
Wideband technology is now available in more than 300 communities throughout Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, with additional launches ongoing. Wideband is also offered in other Comcast markets, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Fort Wayne, Hartford, parts of New Jersey, Philadelphia, Portland, the Twin Cities and Seattle. Earlier this year, Comcast announced it anticipated rolling out the new wideband technology to 65 percent of its footprint by the end of 2009 - the equivalent of more than 30 million homes and businesses passed.
