'Stick It in Detroit': Detroit Filmmaker Sacrifices Everything, Including Eight Inches of His Intestine, to Release a 'Comedy Bailout' to His Hurting City and State

DETROIT, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Comedy writer/director and Crohn's Disease sufferer Robert Phelps has sacrificed everything, including a portion of his gut, to release a direly needed "comedy bailout" to the state of Michigan and the city he loves, Detroit. Ever an optimistic idealist, it was no surprise to his family and friends when Robert sold everything he had in hopes of making the film, "Stick It in Detroit." While working tireless hours to finish it last May, Robert's health took a turn for the worse. He was unable to eat for eleven days due to a complete obstruction in his ileum, a complication of Crohn's Disease, forcing him to have eight inches of his small intestine removed.

Now fully recovered, Robert is poised to unleash his film onto the world on March 23, 2009. "Stick It in Detroit" is an award-winning, insane comedy starring cast and writers featured on "30 Rock," "SNL" and "Rescue Me." It has been reviewed as "F***ing Brilliant," "The funniest indie ever made. Period," and "... some of the most brazen comedy ever put on film."

When asked recently if his trials have been worth it, Robert replied, "If I can help people escape the stresses of their lives in these financially unbearable times, even if only for an hour and a half, and give them some time to forget about everything and just laugh, then yes, it was well worth it."

"Stick It in Detroit" synopsis:

From the desperate heart of the Motor City, comes a gritty, raw, unrated comedy that will take you from "smiling" to "laughing your head off" in 4.1 seconds flat.

Chaos rules while factory worker Todd Kennedy (Robert Phelps) is forced to choose between accepting a lucrative out-of-state job promotion or staying in Detroit. His indecision leaves him searching for answers from his highly dysfunctional family and friends. The laughs are nonstop as first-time director Robert Phelps and his amazing cast take everyday Middle American situations and turn them into laugh-out-loud social train wrecks.
