NAMIC Announces Congressman G.K. Butterfield and Univision's Jorge Ramos as Guest Speakers for the 2009 NAMIC Annual Awards Breakfast

NEW YORK, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) today announced that Congressman G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., and Univision Network news anchor Jorge Ramos will be the featured speakers for the NAMIC Annual Awards Breakfast. Scheduled for Friday, April 3, 2009 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC, the event will also be highlighted by the presentation of the Next Generation Leaders Awards. The NAMIC Annual Awards Breakfast is held in conjunction with the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) Cable Show as part of Cable Connection - Spring.

Butterfield was elected to the U.S. House in 2004 after serving 15 years as a judge on North Carolina's Superior and Supreme courts. Butterfield currently serves as a member of the House Ethics Committee and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Additionally, Butterfield serves as a chief deputy whip and as vice chairman of the Energy and Environmental Subcommittee.

Considered one of the most eloquent, credible and powerful voices of Hispanic America, Jorge Ramos has received many accolades throughout his career, including eight Emmy awards for excellence in journalism and the Maria Moors Cabot award from Columbia University. He's been dubbed the "Star Newscaster of Hispanic TV" and "Hispanic TV's #1 correspondent" by The Wall Street Journal and named one of "the 25 most influential Hispanics in the United States" by both TIME and People magazines. Ramos has served as co-anchor of "Noticiero Univision" (Univision Network News) with Maria Elena Salinas since 1986. Currently, Ramos hosts the network's weekly Sunday public affairs show, "Al Punto"; airs three daily radio commentaries on the Univision Radio Network and writes a weekly syndicated column published in more than 40 newspapers in the United States and Latin America. Noticiero Univision airs on the Univision Network, the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network in the U.S. and is, many nights, one of the top five broadcast networks in America regardless of language.

Presented in partnership with Multichannel News, the Next Generation Leaders Awards honor up-and-coming executives of color age 45 and under for demonstrating exceptional business practices within the scope of their managerial capacities while embracing NAMIC's mission to educate, advocate and empower for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry. Awards are presented in three categories: Cable MSO, Cable Programmer and Technology Company or Discipline. Winners of the 2009 Next Generation Leaders Awards include Cesar Conde, chief strategy officer & EVP, Univision Communications, Inc., Kashif Haq, strategic execution officer, Bright House Networks and Toni Stubbs, vice president, Field Information Technology, Cox Communications. Conde (Programmer), Haq (MSO) and Stubbs (Technology) comprise the fourth consecutive group of business leaders selected to receive this honor.
