iPhone Control, Webcam Video, Microblogging Applications for Television to be Demonstrated by ActiveVideo Networks at Cable Show

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Independently developed innovations that can increase user engagement at the television using existing cable infrastructure and set-top boxes are being showcased by ActiveVideo Networks(TM) at the nation's leading cable industry show this week.

In its booth (#1423) at The Cable Show in Washington, DC, ActiveVideo Networks is showing for the first time third-party applications that can quickly and easily be deployed by cable system operators. Applications that will be demonstrated at the show include:

-- Monitoring and controlling any webcam from a standard cable set-top
box;
-- Use of a viewer's iPhone(R) as an interactive television search and
navigational tool; and
-- Microblogging applications such as Twitter and Facebook, on any
digital set-top box.

All three applications were created independently of the ActiveVideo Networks content development team, using ActiveVideo's Web-based content creation tools. None of them required any changes to the core ActiveVideo(TM) platform. The applications show how cable system operators and programmers can overcome CPE fragmentation by working with independent developers and in-house development groups to build applications that can be deployed to any digital set-top box.

The iPhone Control application will demonstrate how the keypad functionality of smartphones can be used to enter interactive TV text more quickly than the use of on-screen keyboards that are navigated by remote control. Finally, the Microblogging application will show how social networking applications can be accessed and controlled from any existing set-top box.
