Small Independent Group TruthandHope.org Wins Top Honors at Politics Magazine's Reed Awards

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- TruthandHope.org was presented with two Reed Awards for its innovative television campaigns during the 2008 Presidential Election. TruthandHope.org took top honors for Best Presidential Ad of 2008, as well as Independent Expenditure/Issue Advocacy/Ballot Initiative Television Ad of 2008 for its spot Darrell Hanschen on Race.

The spot features Darrell Hanschen, a pharmacist in Jackson, Missouri, speaking with blunt honesty regarding President Barack Obama's race and how it is a factor in the minds of voters in his area. This ad was one of thirteen in a series called Local Voices for Obama, which was the creative vision and direction of Emmy and Sundance award-winning director Lee Hirsch. The Local Voices ads all feature real people from small towns speaking unscripted of why they were supporting Barack Obama for President.

Winning this award is a testament to the innovative vision of this team, as TruthandHope.org's work was chosen over nationally recognized ads such as fellow-finalist Fred Davis' Strategic Perception, Inc. and its infamous "Celebrity" ad for the McCain campaign.

Jordan S. Lieberman, President of Political World Communications, LLC and publisher of Politics magazine, said, "The winning TruthandHope ad was the most powerful spot I've seen of the 2008 campaign cycle. The competition for this award was intense, and included some of the most successful political professionals in the world."

Founder & Chairman of TruthandHope.org, Eugene Hedlund, said, "I felt from the beginning that this work was something special, something outside of the usual mold that could make a real difference. All along we've wished to have more eyes on these projects, so it's gratifying to receive this recognition and to have our profile raised so we can facilitate more innovative media campaigns in the future."

The Reed Awards recognizes excellence in campaign management, political consulting and creative content. The awards are named after Campaigns & Elections founder Stanley Foster Reed, and embody his mission to strive for excellence in political campaigning.

The Campaigns & Elections' Politics magazine Reed Awards are highly coveted by the nation's top political consultants. This year's Reed Awards were judged by political luminaries from across the political spectrum, including: Morton Blackwell, Tucker Carlson, Tom Davis, Monica Dixon, Ben Dworkin, Vic Fazio, Martin Frost, Julie Germany, Shane Greer, Ken Khachigian, Mike Hennessy, Ron Klain, Mike Krempasky, Kevin Madden, Mark, McKinnon, Dick Morris, Terry Nelson, Christie Pelosi, Amy Pritchard, Larry Sabato, Ron Silver, Jamal Simmons, Michael Steele, George Stephanopolous, Robert Traynham, Joe Trippi, Suzanne Turner, Vaughn Ververs, Amy Walter, Christine Todd Whitman, and Reid Wilson.

Lee Hirsch is an acclaimed director whose debut feature film, Amandla! a Revolution in Four Part Harmony, which chronicled the history of the South African anti-apartheid struggle through a celebration of its musical heroes, won the Audience and Freedom of Expression Awards at the Sundance Film Festival, as well as one of the five Emmy awards it was nominated for.
