LA Celebrates Hollywood With A Gilded Oscar Issue
Los Angeles Times Magazine Explores the History, Glamour and Spirit of the Academy Awards
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- LA, Los Angeles Times Magazine, honors past legends, current icons and rising stars with a unique take on Oscar in its January/February issue, arriving Sunday, February 8. Wrapped in a dramatic black-and-white Anne Hathaway cover highlighted with metallic gold accents, LA goes beyond behind-the-scenes and in-front-of-the-camera to showcase the art, style and fun of the Academy Awards.
"LA is celebrating Oscar's history and the town's awards exuberance, while provoking unusual and unexpected dialogue with both veterans and the newly nominated," says Annie Gilbar, LA editor in chief. "And we're turning the red carpet on its head with Mats Gustafson's illustrations depicting what 'could be' in Oscar fashion, as well as a one-of-a-kind poster of the Kodak Theatre extravaganza rendered by digital artists eBoy."
LA offers an intimate portrait of Hollywood's most storied and sought after prize--and the individuals who personify its mystique. Highlights include:
-- Face Forward: Anne Hathaway - The smart, funny and insightful actress
talks with her Rachel Getting Married screenwriter, Jenny Lumet, about
character, costars and the nature of intimacy. Beautifully
photographed by Mario Sorrenti.
-- Back/Story: Doubt Changes Everything - Oscar-nominated John Patrick
Shanley shares how he found inspiration for the play and movie of
Doubt in his own time of uncertainty.
-- Turn It Up! - Music and Culture Editor Nic Harcourt debuts his monthly
column with a conversation about music and movies with award-winning
Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, a handpicked playlist and a
rundown of can't-miss shows.
-- Where's Oscar? - Berlin-based pixel art collective eBoy puts a pop
twist on the red carpet scene in a collectible color pullout.
Thirty-nine of the golden boys wait to be discovered among starlets,
paparazzi and fans lining Hollywood Boulevard.
-- The New Red Carpet - Stylist Lori Goldstein reminds us how risky--and
playful--awards-show couture used to be...and how captivating it could
be again. Mats Gustafson provides illustrations of her suggested
eye-popping Oscar fashions for present-day divas.
-- Howard/Martin - Frost/Nixon director Ron Howard talks to actor, author
and friend Steve Martin about his enduring 50-year career...and why he
has no intention of stopping.
-- Suddenly Last Summer - Producer Howard Rosenman details his lifelong
Elizabeth Taylor obsession--which included subterfuge and the
collection of priceless photos at any cost--and how it inadvertently
charted the course of his life.
In addition, longtime Oscar telecast director Gil Cates tells the tale of a six-foot python that slithered away during one memorable rehearsal, David Steinberg reveals just how Johnny Carson made his polished hosting performances look so effortless and Oscar-winner Carole Bayer Sager recalls the loss of--and re-bonding with--her mother after a long battle with cancer.
