Special Exhibition From February 2 to May 10 2009 - "The Flight After the Flood" - New Orleans: The City Left Behind

BREMERHAVEN, Germany, January 8/PRNewswire/ -- On August 29, 2005 the hurricane "Katrina" swept over New Orleans. 1,836
perished, thousands fled the city. As of today only half have returned.
Robert Green lost his mother and granddaughter. Despite this tragic incident
he still has a positive outlook: "But, we do learn from our mistakes."

The special exhibition will portray the aspects of inland migration using
New Orleans as an example. It will take a look at the city through the eyes
of the ones who have returned and those who had stayed. Installations,
documentary films and exhibits form a unique concept, which allows for an
intellectual, sensitive and emotional approach to a highly current topic.

A special feature of the exhibition will be the presentation of the
"Floodwall" from Jana Napoli, which has already been shown in New York and
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The artist created her installation from hundreds of
discarded drawers she found two months after hurricane "Katrina" throughout
the orphaned city.

The German Emigration Center, Bremerhaven is Europe's largest and most
modern museum on emigration and winner of the European Museum of the Year
2007 award. Visitors follow the paths of some 7 million emigrants who left
Europe between 1830 and 1974 from Bremerhaven. True-to life reconstructions
and multimedia stagings place the visitors into historic times and places.
The exhibition contains the most important international data banks and
allows visitors to search for emigrated ancestors.
