DALLAS, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning Tuesday, February 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET, the award-winning HDNet World Report will present the three-part series, Moving Millions. It is said that more than 200 million people are now living outside the country of their birth - more than in any other time in history. This major news commitment, will explore global migration - the fluid movement of goods, services and people across borders - and its severe effects on workers, economies and politics.

HDNet World Report: Moving Millions represents over six weeks of shooting in seven different countries. It is produced and hosted by World Report correspondent Jeffrey Kaye, who is writing a book of the same name, to be published by Wiley and Sons. Kaye has also reported for PBS' Newshour with Jim Lehrer since 1984.
The first installment of Moving Millions, looks at the 'rush to the bottom' -- multi-national corporations migrating country to country to take advantage of lower wage rates. From North Carolina, to the Dominican Republic, to Vietnam (Hanesbrands) ... from Ireland to Poland (Dell Computers) ... how do these major moves affect the communities that these companies are moving to ... and from?

Next, the series investigates what some have called a 'modern-day slave state' -- Dubai, where incredibly, migrant workers make up at least 80 percent of the population. Most of the migrants come from rural areas in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. They live in labor camps that stretch for miles in the desert sand. Abuses are said to be widespread and include non-payment of wages, unsafe working conditions, the withholding of passports, and massive exploitation by recruitment agencies, which place workers in a state of indentured servitude. Kaye and his crew surreptitiously visited one of these desert camps, and met workers who described their plight.
Finally, Moving Millions goes exclusively inside the new partnerships between Europe and African border police forces working to control migration. Europe is trying to seal its borders, which span thousands of miles on land and sea, creating a so-called 'Fortress Europe,' with mixed results. Critics charge that these new efforts include draconian policies, which abuse the rights of migrants. Kaye and his crew traveled to Britain, Poland and the West African nation of Senegal, where many of the migrants leave on rickety boats, risking life and limb to reach Europe.
