Azteca America Network Chairman Luis J. Echarte Joins CHCI Board of Directors
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Azteca America Network is proud to announce the acceptance of Chairman Luis J. Echarte's nomination to the Board of Directors of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) for the 2009-2010 term.
The Executive Board includes about 40 representatives of the top U.S. corporations and non-profit groups in the country, as well as members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Caucus members Rep. Hilda Solis and Sen. Ken Salazar have been nominated to high profile cabinet positions within the team of President Elect Barack Obama as Secretaries of Labor and the Interior, respectively.
"I'm honored to accept the nomination to the Executive Board and look forward to continued close collaboration with the 2009-2010 Chair, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, and CHCI President and CEO Esther Aguilera," said Mr. Echarte, who also presides over the board of Fundacion Azteca America.
The CHCI is one of the leading Hispanic non-profit and non-partisan organizations in the country, established in 1978 by Congressman Edward Roybal, Congressman E. "Kika" de la Garza and Congressman Baltasar Corrada to help increase opportunities for Hispanics to participate in and contribute to the American policy-making process. As of 1985, the Board of Directors has included influential Hispanic business persons from the private sector, community leaders and labor leaders to form a comprehensive group with members of the Hispanic Caucus of the U.S. Congress.
Azteca America has worked closely with the CHCI and the Hispanic Caucus since the founding of its network in 2001 and its non-profit group Fundacion Azteca America in 2006. The foundation currently co-sponsors an international fellowship program between Mexico and the United States to promote future international leaders and is committed to increased engagement of the Latino community in the political process with programs to increase awareness, voter registration and participation.
