TouchTunes Jukebox 2008 Holiday Survey Finds Merrymaking Still a Top Priority Despite Economy
Bar Goers Say Given the Choice, They'd Prefer a Large Company Party Over Extra Cash; Would Rather Re-Gift Than Break Up to Save Money
NEW YORK, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The annual TouchTunes jukebox holiday survey results are in, and it seems that despite the current economic downturn, merrymaking remains a top priority. In the wake of Ponzi schemes and corruption news, the majority of TouchTunes survey respondents surprisingly chose a company-wide bash, or even a pub-crawl, as their ideal holiday office party over extra cash. And that age-old trick of breaking up just before the holidays to escape buying the significant other a gift? This year, re-gifting and waiting until post-holiday sales are choices one and two, with breaking-up number three.
The TouchTunes holiday survey was conducted on over 6,000 jukebox screens nationwide from November 27 through December 12. Multiple-choice questions included polling for favorite holiday music, favorite holiday drink, budget cutting, and dieting.
Even strategies for avoiding holiday weight gain favored merrymaking according to TouchTunes survey results. Nearly 36% of respondents chose "Be the life of the party and dance the pounds off" rather than "Avoid eggnog and candy canes," or "Count shopping as exercise."
Only a small minority of those surveyed let the headlines get to them. Just 16% told TouchTunes that they'd choose "Leave early and stick your friends with the bar bill" as a way to save money given the uncertain economy. More voters chose the better mannered, "Return all the gifts you receive and keep the cash."
The top pick for favorite rock n' roll Christmas song was "Christmas Don't Be Late" by Alvin and the Chipmunks, just edging out Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and followed by "I Wish Every Day Could Be Like Christmas" by Jon Bon Jovi, and "Jingle Bells" by the Barking Dogs.
And what did the TouchTunes jukebox holiday survey reveal as the favorite drink during the 2008 holiday season? It wasn't eggnog, hot toddies or Schnapps shots. The winner was: "Beer -- that's all I can afford." Well, times are tough.
