Posit Science Featured in New PBS Documentary
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientists, science and technology from Posit Science(R) Corporation will be featured in a new documentary, entitled "Brain Fitness 2: Sight & Sound," which will begin airing nationwide on PBS stations Thanksgiving weekend.
The program features Dr. Michael Merzenich, Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Posit Science, as well as many other scientific advisors and research collaborators of Posit Science. They discuss recent breakthroughs in brain research and how new technologies can be used to improve lives. For example, the scientists examine how the brain's processing of visual information changes and declines with age. The erosion of sensory processing leads to deficits in mental functions, such as attention and memory, and has other deleterious effects on quality of life. However, new research shows that the brain remains highly plastic, or malleable, and is capable of improving its processing abilities throughout life, when engaged in the right kind of cognitive training activities.
The show will be used in the network's quarterly pledge drives, which raise funds from viewers. It is a sequel to last year's documentary "The Brain Fitness Program." In connection with this year's documentary, major donors to PBS will receive a copy of InSight(TM), the computerized training program from Posit Science designed to improve visual processing and memory.
The Posit Science technology used in InSight has been extensively tested in randomized controlled trials and has been the subject of more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles in science and medical journals. It has been shown effective in increasing visual processing speed, improving driving abilities, and enhancing skills necessary to maintaining independence.
The documentary will first air this weekend and is expected to air throughout the year. Actual times vary by local stations. Local listings can be found at http://www.brainfitness2.com/ or http://www.positscience.com/pbs along with a preview of the documentary.
