Emmy-Nominated Costume Designer Goes Platinum

Emmy-Nominated Costume Designer Goes Platinum

Cate Adair, costume designer for Desperate Housewives and luxury jewelry company, Kwiat, create the "Platinum Clutch" in honor of the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

NEW YORK, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Cate Adair, the Emmy-nominated and award-winning costume designer for Desperate Housewives, has collaborated with Kwiat, the 101-year old luxury jewelry and diamond company, to create the ultimate accessory, the "Platinum Clutch." The one-of-a-kind purse, valued at more than $500,000, will debut at the Platinum Guild International (PGI-USA) Annual Emmy Awards Red Carpet Jewelry Preview, taking place September 18-20, in Beverly Hills. The bag features genuine pure Platinum design elements set with 60 carats of Kwiat diamonds, in honor of the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

The PGI-USA Annual Emmy Awards Red Carpet Jewelry Preview allows Hollywood celebrities and their stylists to select unique, exclusive and never-before-seen Platinum jewelry from a wide variety of American jewelry designers and international world-class jewelry brands. The Platinum Clutch will be a highlight piece that one celebrity will carry down the Emmy Awards red carpet on Sunday, September 21.

The Platinum Clutch was the brainchild of Adair, who launched the Cate Adair Collection of luxury handbags in 2006. "The idea for the Platinum Clutch came to me when I was giving a lecture about the importance of accessories in defining television and movie characters," said Adair. "I realized I could combine my two passions -- luxury handbags and the luxury, rarity and durability of fine Platinum -- to create the ultimate accessory."

Adair, a loyal attendee of the PGI-USA Emmy Awards Jewelry Previews and a 2008 Emmy Award nominee for "Outstanding Costumes for a Series" for her work on Desperate Housewives, stated that Platinum and diamonds were the only choices she considered for the clutch.

"Only the finest materials are used in my handbag collection, so I chose two of the best materials in the jewelry industry -- Platinum and Kwiat diamonds -- to bring the Platinum Clutch to life. The natural whiteness of Platinum showcases the true beauty of the diamonds and ensures they will be held securely on the red carpet, during the award show and at the after parties."

After accessorizing the arm of a celebrity during this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, the Platinum Clutch will be on display at Kwiat's new flagship store located at 725 Madison Avenue. The 1,000-square-foot boutique opened on September 4, 2008, and showcases a wide variety of Kwiat's diamond jewelry collections, with pieces ranging from $2,500 to more than $1 million.

"We are honored to work with Cate, who is one of the most talented fashion minds in Hollywood," said Greg Kwiat, CFO of Kwiat. "When she presented us with her vision for a diamond and platinum clutch, we jumped at the opportunity to create this incredible, one-of-a-kind piece."
