WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 Announces Expanded Woodward Dream Cruise Coverage with Three Live Specials and Retro TV
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- From funky fins to flashy fenders, the grand daddy of classic cruises is ready to roll, and WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 is revved up to bring you all the action for the 14th annual Woodward Dream Cruise. For the first time ever Channel 7 will air three live specials, in addition to blanket news coverage devoted to the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise. WXYZ-TV will cap off its coverage by televising four favorite retro TV shows. WXYZ-TV is the event's exclusive television partner.
To jump start the weekend of festivities, Channel 7 Action News Anchors Stephen Clark and Diana Lewis will co-host the Woodward Dream Cruise Preview GM Next on Friday, August 15th, live from Royal Oak. WXYZ-TV/Channel 7's broadcast begins at 8PM and will look back at a century of iconic GM vehicles and forward to the next 100 years of innovation. Action News Automotive Reporter Mary Conway will report live from Athens Coney Island with past and present versions of some of GM's most well known brands. Action News Weekend Anchor Glenda Lewis will be live in Pleasant Ridge to highlight the latest in green automotive technology and Action News Reporter Christy McDonald will be spotlighting the Berkley parade. Action News Weather Anchor Dave Rexroth, is cruising Woodward in the WXYZ "Car Cam."
Then Saturday, August 16th, Action News This Morning with Hosts Alicia Smith and Dave LewAllen, will broadcast live bumper-to-bumper coverage beginning at 8AM with the General Motors' 100 Car Parade. Channel 7's cameras will zoom in on all the action as 100 of GM's most celebrated models cruise Woodward Avenue from the GM headquarters at the Renaissance Center to Royal Oak. Capt. Dennis Neubacher will be high in the sky inside OnStar Chopper 7 with a bird's eye view of the parade.
Saturday night, Action News Anchors Stephen Clark and Diana Lewis are back in the driver's seat to co-host the ultimate celebration of car culture with WXYZ/Channel 7's Woodward Dream Cruise Special. The two-hour, live, prime time broadcast will include a series of live reports from north to south along the 16-mile stretch of Woodward Avenue, spanning from southern most part of Ferndale to the heart of Pontiac.
Action News 5PM Anchor Carolyn Clifford will be live in Pontiac and Action News Automotive Reporter Mary Conway will report from Northwood Shopping Center. They'll be joined by Action News Consumer Reporter JoAnne Purtan, right in the middle of all the action in Royal Oak, and Sports Director, Don Shane is cruising along side all the classic cars on Woodward with the WXYZ "Car Cam." Action News Reporter Christy McDonald will host the 2008 Cruisin' Idol competition. This year's judges include Oldies 104.3 WOMC personality Dick Purtan, Action News This Morning Anchor Alicia Smith, and Mike Martini, President of Bridgestone USA. "Captain" Dennis Neubacher provides aerial coverage of the Cruise from OnStar Chopper 7.
Immediately following WXYZ-TV/Channel 7's coverage of the Woodward Dream Cruise the fun continues with a round of vintage TV favorites. First, it's a hilarious episode of "Leave It To Beaver" at 9PM, followed by "The Monkees" at 9:30. Then at 10PM it's "McHale's Navy," with a classic episode of "Dragnet" at 10:30.
Live accounts of the Woodward Dream Cruise events will be recapped on Channel 7's 11PM Action News.
