Sponsors European Tour
The New York Philharmonic returns to the BBC Proms for the first time in
twelve years when it performs two concerts with Music Director Lorin Maazel
on August 28 and 29, beginning the Orchestra's Tour of Europe 2008. The tour
has been made possible by Credit Suisse, the exclusive global sponsor of the
New York Philharmonic.
Music Director Lorin Maazel and the New York Philharmonic perform 14
concerts in nine cities throughout Europe, August 28 to September 12, 2008,
in celebration of Lorin Maazel's valedictory season as the Orchestra's Music
Director. In addition to the concerts in London, the orchestra will be
playing at the Lucerne Festival, at the Rheingau Musik Festival in Frankfurt,
at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Hamburg, at the Beethovenfest in
Bonn, in Essen, Stuttgart, Baden-Baden, and in Paris. The tour repertoire
includes works by Steven Stucky, Bartók, Bruckner, Gershwin, Mendelssohn,
Ravel, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky, featuring pianist Jean Yves Thibaudet as
soloist.
James Leigh-Pemberton, CEO of Credit Suisse in the United Kingdom, said:
"We are proud of our partnership with the New York Philharmonic and of its
tradition of excellence and innovation. It is a particular pleasure for us to
share with our clients a world-class orchestra such as the New York
Philharmonic during the BBC Proms."
A Broad International Commitment to Culture
Credit Suisse supports institutions that demonstrate outstanding
achievements in their field and foster values that are in keeping with those
of the bank. During the past two years, Credit Suisse has strengthened its
international presence in cultural sponsorship, reflecting its commitment to
the communities in which it operates. Recent commitments with a long-term
focus include the New York Philharmonic (since 2007), the National Gallery in
London (since 2008), the Salzburg Festival (since 2006), the Bolshoi Theatre
in Moscow and the Shanghai Museum and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (both since
2006). Credit Suisse also supports a range of cultural institutions in
Switzerland.
In addition, Credit Suisse also plays an active role in promoting young
artists. Credit Suisse supports institutions such as the Orchestra Academy of
the Zurich Opera House, which allows gifted young musicians from all over the
world to gain experience in a professional orchestra and to develop their
potential by exposure to the practical field. Opportunities for these
musicians to appear in public also include the Davos Festival, which has
earned international acclaim for its "Young Artists in Concert" program.
During the Asian tour of the New York Philharmonic this year, Credit Suisse
supported its educational program in Shanghai, including teaching classes and
a "Very Young Composers" program. The bank is also engaged in the National
Gallery's educational projects for schools in the East End of London and the
Docklands in the United Kingdom.
