5 Finalists Competing for a Movie Award and MTV Films Development Deal

NEW YORK, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- mtvU, the 24-hour college network, has announced the five finalists for the 3rd annual "Best Filmmaker on Campus" contest, honoring the best and brightest filmmakers of tomorrow. Throughout the year, thousands of student filmmakers create profiles and upload their films at www.BestFilmOnCampus.com, where they compete for cash, prizes, development and production deals, and monthly opportunities to direct music videos for major label artists. On June 1st, the biggest honor will go to the year's top filmmaker, who will take home MTV's Golden Popcorn for "Best Filmmaker on Campus" and receive a development deal with MTV Films worth $25,000.

The five finalists in the 2008 mtvU BEST FILMMAKER ON CAMPUS Contest are:

The winner of this year's "Best Filmmaker On Campus" Award will be crowned backstage at the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" where they'll rub elbows with the biggest names in Hollywood.

Previous winners include Fordham University Senior Josh Caldwell, who took home the award in 2006 and went on to direct a 6 episode series for mtvU and mtvU.com. Since claiming the "Best Filmmaker on Campus" Award in 2007, University of Southern California film student Josh Greenbaum has seen his short films premiere in theatres nationwide and is now slated to direct the feature length film "Art of Cool" for Columbia Pictures.

Hosted by Mike Myers, the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" will be broadcast LIVE from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, June 1st at 8pm/7c.
