SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Multi-platinum MTV VMA, ASCAP, American Music Award and Grammy Award winning international superstar Fergie will serve "Labels Or Love," the theme song to the upcoming Warner Bros./HBO Films motion picture Sex And The City. In addition to the movie soundtrack, "Labels Or Love" will also be one of four bonus tracks on the deluxe new edition re-release of THE DUTCHESS, Fergie's worldwide 6 million selling debut solo album. Along with the four bonus tracks, the new package will feature an exclusive fold-out poster illustration of Fergie, an insert coupon discount to merchandise and a connect cd option providing video content.
"Labels Or Love," written by Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Douglas Cuomo and produced by SALAAMREMI.COM, will be released on the deluxe new edition of THE DUTCHESS arriving in stores on May 27th. Sex And The City, expected to be one of the blockbuster hits of 2008, will open in theatres nationwide on May 30th.
The original 13-song configuration of THE DUTCHESS -- source of the career-defining string of hit singles "London Bridge," "Fergalicious," "Glamorous" featuring Ludacris, "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Clumsy," and "Finally" -- will now be augmented with 1) "Labels Or Love"; 2) a cover version of Heart's "Barracuda" (which Fergie performed live with Heart on April 8th's all-star Idol Gives Back benefit event on FOX-TV); 3) "Clumsy (Souljaboy Remix)"; and 4) "Party People" featuring Nelly.
Fergie has forever emblazoned herself into chart history with THE DUTCHESS, RIAA triple platinum (3.6 million) in the U.S. with over 2 million in sales around the world. The album (released September 2006) is now in its 83rd week (20th month!) on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with a total of 13 weeks inside the Top 10, and 44 weeks inside the Top 20. Fergie is the #1 selling artist for digital song downloads with sales currently approaching 12 million.
Fueling the success of THE DUTCHESS has been its phenomenal run of RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum singles. It is only the fifth time in the BDS Top 40 chart's history (which began in 1992) that one album has produced six chart hits. Individually (in order of release):
-- "London Bridge" (released July 2006): RIAA platinum digital single and
RIAA platinum mastertone; hit #1 on the Hot 100 and made the
second-highest jump ever recorded in the 50-year history of the
Hot 100, from #84 to #3 in its second week out; video reached #1 at
VH1, and received a purple award from Yahoo! Video for achieving
10 million plays;
-- "Fergalicious" (Oct. 2006): RIAA double-platinum digital single and
RIAA platinum mastertone; hit #1 on the Pop 100 and the video reached
#1 at VH1;
-- "Glamorous" featuring Ludacris (Feb. 2007): RIAA double-platinum
digital single and RIAA platinum mastertone; hit #1 on the Hot 100,
Pop 100, and Dance charts; has logged 10 million plays on YouTube's
official UMG (Universal Music Group) channel;
-- "Big Girls Don't Cry" (May 2007): RIAA double-platinum digital single
and RIAA platinum mastertone; hit #1 on the Hot 100 and Pop 100, one of
only three songs (along with OneRepublic's "Apologize" and Leona Lewis'
"Bleeding Love") to surpass 10,000 plays on the CHR/Top 40 chart; has
logged 21 million plays on YouTube's UMG channel;
-- "Clumsy" (Sept. 2007): RIAA platinum digital single; hit #2 on the
Pop 100 and #5 on the Hot 100; has logged 16 million plays on the UMG
channel, reached #1 at MTV, and is still charted on Yahoo! Video
(at #24); featured in the smash film Knocked Up;
-- "Finally" featuring John Legend (March 2008): most recent single,
performed live with John Legend at the 50th annual Grammy awards
broadcast in February, and at Idol Gives Back; also performed by Fergie
on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and ABC's Live with
Regis & Kelly;
-- "Party People" featuring Nelly (April 15, 2008): track from upcoming
deluxe edition of THE DUTCHESS; video (Marc Webb) made its MTV TRL
premiere on Monday, April 14th and is #2 at Yahoo! Video;
-- "Labels Or Love" (May 27, 2008): track from upcoming deluxe edition.
Fergie became the first female artist since Christina Aguilera (in 2000) to score three #1's on the Hot 100 chart from one album. She is also the first female artist of the decade to land her first four solo singles in the Top 5 on the Nielsen BDS-powered CHR/Top 40 chart -- and only the third artist in the history of that chart to score five Top 5 singles from one album (along with Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson). The 2 million digital sales each of "Fergalicious," "Glamorous," and "Big Girls Don't Cry" marked the first time that any artist has had three hits from one album accomplish that feat. Fergie is also the first artist to net four platinum mastertones from one album. In all, her combined digital singles sales and mastertone sales total in excess of 15 million.
Fergie has been a member of the multi-platinum two-time Grammy Award winning group The Black Eyed Peas for five years, since they became a global sensation with the release of their third album, Elephunk (June 2003, featuring the massive #1 hit, "Where Is the Love?" and the Rap Grammy-winning "Let's Get It Started"). It was followed by their first #1 pop/ #1 R&B crossover album, 2005's triple-platinum Monkey Business, which spun off a trio of smash hits, "Don't Phunk With My Heart" (their second consecutive Rap Grammy), "My Humps" -- which became the first 2-million selling mastertone of all time -- and "Pump It." The Black Eyed Peas are an international success story, having sold more than 17 million units worldwide.
