U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for April 29

WASHINGTON, April 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

TUESDAY, APRIL 29: APPRECIATING JAZZ

Profile America -- Tuesday, April 29th. This is Jazz Appreciation Month, an annual observance led by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Special events will highlight the heritage and history of jazz and its impact on American culture. It's an appropriate month for the observance: Many jazz legends were born in April, including Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington, whose birthday is noted today. Among the many events planned around the country is the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, held over two weekends, and expecting to draw a half-million people. Some 11 percent of adult Americans hear a live jazz performance at least once a year and jazz accounts for 2 percent of recorded music sales. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at www.census.gov.

Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau.
