LOS ANGELES, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Salvador Santana Band (SSB), featuring bandleader, vocalist, composer & keyboardist Salvador Santana, brings their high energy fusion of conscious hip-hop, rock, funk, R&B and Latin music to the New York metropolitan area for two shows next week. On Friday, April 25, they'll take the stage at the Highline Ballroom in the meatpacking district on Manhattan's lower west side (431 W. 16th St., NYC, NY 10011). The following night, Saturday, April 26, SSB rolls into New Jersey to open for the Jakob Dylan-fronted group, The Wallflowers, at House Of Blues Atlantic City (801 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401).
Upcoming, the Salvador Santana Band will also be featured at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where they play the Acura Stage on Sunday, May 4. The band has been on tour since February, when their debut full-length album SSB was released. Their itinerary, which has primarily been west of the Mississippi so far this year, has been a mix of solo dates as well as opening slots for deSol, John Popper and Galactic. Highlights have also included a March 12 performance at Austin, TX's SXSW Music Festival, where their set was taped and portions featured as part of a special for DirecTV that was broadcast to millions of subscribers nationwide.
Salvador Santana served as album producer for the group's debut disc SSB, which came out February 26 on his own VBE imprint, with distribution through Tsunami Label Group. The album features guest collaborations with Asdru Sierra of Ozomatli, DJ Nu-Mark (Jurassic 5), Ryan Tedder of One Republic and Carlos Santana. In addition to Salvador, the band's line-up includes: vocalist Quincy McCrary (formerly of Quetzal and Burning Star), bassist Emerson Cardenas, guitarist Woody Aplanalp (Lauryn Hill, Nels Cline, Thomas Mapfumo, etc.), drummer Tony Austin (who also sits in with Solomon Burke) and ex-Ozomatli multi-instrumentalist Jose "Crunchy" Espinosa.
The Salvador Santana Band can also be heard on the digital benefit compilation album "Voto Latino -- It's Your Country ... Represent!", currently #1 on iTunes' Top Latin Albums chart. Voto Latino is a non-partisan organization that works to promote an enfranchised America and supports voter empowerment in the Latino community. Nacional Records, the issuing label, and iTunes are both donating all proceeds from album sales to Voto Latino's voter registration, education and empowerment initiatives (http://www.votolatino.org/).
