LINER NOTES, a New Literary Travel Series For Public Radio Launches in March
NEW YORK, Feb. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- LINER NOTES, an eight-part Public Radio literary and travel series exploring the multitude of ways travel can be experienced and enjoyed, will be launched in March of 2008. Presented by Cunard Line, the hour-long programs of Algonquin Roundtable-like gatherings aboard Queen Mary 2, with special features recorded on shore, will provide listeners with entertaining and enlightening looks at fascinating locations around the globe.
Unlike other travel shows, LINER NOTES will be a trip in itself -- a not-to-be-missed celebration of wit, wisdom and wanderlust. Host Paul Holdengraber is the cultural wunderkind whose literary happenings have turned the New York Public Library into a popular hot spot, and whose public events at the Institute for Art and Cultures are treasured by Los Angeles cognoscenti. Notable and knowledgeable guests will explore the destinations, both as experienced and as imagined in literature, painting, film, music and myth. Interviews with travelers and locals will deepen the exploration of place in fact and in fantasy. The discussions will include subjects tangential to travel as well, such as: 'falling in love with a place,' 'the benefits of wandering,' 'lost in translation,' and 'ex-patriot dreams.' This thematic approach has been at the heart of Holdengraber's hugely successful New York Public Library Live series.
Each edition of LINER NOTES will be made available to stations for airing on related seasons or holidays. The first episode in March, focusing on Ireland for St. Patrick's Day, will feature Pulitzer-Prize-winning novelist Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes), as well as acclaimed, award-winning authors Colum McCann, Jimmy Breslin, and NPR film critic Bob Mondello, among many others.
Created by veteran public radio producers Jon Kalish and Marty Goldensohn, LINER NOTES boasts a distinguished production team. With a multitude of locations and multitudinous perspectives, and a changing roster of brilliant and accomplished guests, LINER NOTES promises to be a unique and welcome addition to the public radio tradition of travel shows, providing eight memorable monthly journeys of its own.
LINER NOTES is made possible by generous funding from Cunard Line. More information on LINER NOTES is available online at: http://www.creativepr.org/programs, or by calling Creative PR at 888-233-5650.
