NEW YORK, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Emerging Toronto-based singer-songwriter Justin Hines will make his New York City performance debut at Joe's Pub on Thursday, September 27. Show time is 7PM, and Hines is on a bill with acclaimed Canadian female trio the Wailin' Jennys that's part of the Upper North Side Canadian Music Series, a cultural program overseen by Foreign Affairs & International Trade Canada that promotes the best of "Canada In New York."
Justin Hines is honored to make his first Manhattan appearance at world-renowned Joe's Pub, named for impresario Joseph Papp and part of the celebrated Public Theater Organization. New York Magazine has written, "you never know what you'll find next at Joe's Pub, but you can count on the fact that it will be good, very good" -- their reputation for presenting excellent music extends to both up-and-coming artists like Hines and established stars from around the world and across diverse genre boundaries. They're located at 425 Lafayette Street (between East 4th St. and Astor Place); tickets are available at the Public Theater Box Office or by phone at 212.967.7555.
A lifelong Toronto native, Justin Hines has been making music since childhood. At age 14, he won a radio contest to sing the Canadian national anthem at a Toronto Raptors game and performed in public for the first time in front of 17,000 people. Hines' soulful sound will blend right into the more intimate confines of Joe's Pub, where he'll spotlight songs from his debut album Sides, released in Canada just last month on Orange Lounge/Universal.
On Sides' fourteen tracks, echoes of Justin's many influences, including James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Jim Croce and Harry Chapin, can be heard in his songwriting and performing, which also draws comparisons to contemporaries such as Damien Rice and John Mayer. The album's all-acoustic instrumentation provides an elegantly spare backdrop for Hines' warm melodies, intelligent and confessional lyrics and understated yet emotionally resonant vocals.
Sides' lead single "Wish You Well" has generated major buzz and topped the playlists at Canada's top Adult Contemporary FM radio outlets nationwide. The brand new video for "Wish You Well" is currently in medium rotation on MuchMoreMusic, Canada's leading adult contemporary music video station.
More U.S. and Canadian concert dates will be announced soon.
