Nielsen to Report U.S. Ratings For MTV Tr3s on its Spanish-Language Broadcast Service
NEW YORK, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nielsen Company and MTV Tr3s today announced that they have reached an agreement to report program ratings in Nielsen's U.S. Hispanic broadcast service, known as the Nielsen Television Index Hispanic (NTIH) Service. This is the first time that MTV Tr3s' ratings have been externally reported. The agreement is effective October 1, 2007.
MTV Tr3s is a bilingual television network carried via both a dual feed cable network and a list of broadcast stations across the country, delivering coverage of more than 51% of US Hispanic TV households. Because it is a broadcast network with less than 70% coverage of Hispanic TV households, it will be categorized as a "limited coverage Spanish Language network."
MTV Tr3s' ratings will be derived from the Hispanic sub-sample of Nielsen's National People Meter panel. About 1,300 Hispanic households are included in the Hispanic subsample.
"Nielsen is the industry's leading television measurement system and partnering with them is one more step we are taking to demonstrate MTV Tr3s' strength in connecting with the underserved, fast-growing and highly- influential Hispanic youth segment," said Lucia Ballas-Traynor, Senior Vice President and General Manager, MTV Tr3s.
"We welcome MTV Tr3s as a reporting network," said Doug Darfield, Nielsen's Senior Vice President, Hispanic Services. "As Hispanic programming increases in popularity, the need for extended measurement of every network becomes more essential."
On August 27, Nielsen announced that it was retiring its National Hispanic People Meter (NPMH) panel, a separate Hispanic-only sample established in 1992, and that it would be using the larger National People Meter sample for all national television ratings reporting. The NTIH service draws upon Hispanic panelists in the National People Meter sample.
