Nexicon Signs Independent L.A. Motion Picture Studio
'GetAmnesty' Now in Use by Four Enterprise Customers to Combat Piracy
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Furthering its fight against Internet piracy, today Nexicon, Inc. (Pink Sheets: NXCN) announces the signing of another independent motion picture studio to the GetAmnesty program. The GetAmnesty program is a web-based program that provides copyright holders a method to track illegal downloads of copyrighted material and recoup the lost revenues from the copyright infringement. As a part of contractual obligations, the studio's name has been withheld.
The new customer, a Los Angeles-based movie studio, is the fourth enterprise level customer participating in the GetAmnesty program since the program's announcement on August 14, 2007. Like other copyright holders participating in the GetAmnesty program, this studio can now leverage Nexicon's technology to track Internet users who are illegally downloading the studio's films. Once tracked, offenders can visit the GetAmnesty Web site (http://www.getamnesty.com/) to settle with the copyright holder -- avoiding the costly litigation expenses associated with the prosecution of copyright theft.
"We are proud to announce this addition to our growing portfolio of clients in the motion picture industry," said Richard Urrea, Nexicon CEO. "We continue to widen our protective reach of copyrighted media via the GetAmnesty solution."
The online piracy of copyrighted material is a multi-billion dollar problem for the entertainment industry. Future customers of Nexicon who leverage the GetAmnesty solution are able to recoup lost revenue by collecting settlement fees from offenders, with the potential to convert the offender into a paying user in the future, when Nexicon, Inc. further innovates the GetAmnesty product.
"In copyright cases, the studios are willing to give the pirate a break, as long as the offender settles," said Urrea. "In many cases the pirate becomes a legitimate user of our clients' other film offerings -- enabling our client to not only recoup costs associated with the original download, but also to add a future loyal user. GetAmnesty program facilitates this entire process," said Urrea.
The advanced technology behind the GetAmnesty program is based upon Nexicon's powerful state of the art tracking and scanning systems deployed world wide in numerous network operation centers, which provide 99.9% accuracy in detecting Internet pirates. Unlike previous amnesty solutions which only allowed for a few manual settlement offerings to be processed, GetAmnesty program and its backend technology enables Nexicon Inc. to track close to every single illegal download on all the major p2p networks with focused title tracking and automated content fingerprinting technology.
