You May Have a Thyroid Problem and Not Know It - Particularly If You're Over 60, Says a New Harvard Medical School Report

Doctors often mistake the symptoms of thyroid disease for another disorder such as heart failure, high cholesterol, or even dementia, says a new edition of a report from Harvard Medical School. The symptoms of thyroid diseases are so wide-ranging, particularly in older men and women, that doctors often overlook thyroid disorder as the cause and instead focus on common illnesses that occur with age, according to Thyroid Disease: Understanding Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism.

What Brands Are Teens Talking About? New TalkTrack(TM) Survey Reveals Word of Mouth Winners

Here's a dog-bites-man news flash: Teens love to talk. What is news, however, is just how much more teens talk about brands than the rest of the American people (twice as many each week). And for the first time, research shows that the brands they talk about most positively are completely different than those receiving positive mentions in the general public's conversations. In a word of mouth (WOM) survey of just over two thousand teens ages 13-17, the five brands with the largest number of "net positive" mentions were iPod, American Eagle, Dr Pepper, Chevrolet and Nintendo. In contrast, the top five WOM brand all-stars among the general public (over fifteen thousand respondents ages 13-69) are Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Wal-Mart, Sony and Toyota. This is the latest research from TalkTrack, the Keller Fay Group's measurement program for WOM marketing that monitors the word of mouth conversations of thousands of Americans weekly.

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS: Survey Shows Thank-You Notes Influence Hiring Decisions, But Only Half of Candidates Send Them

Your mother told you to do it, and now a new survey shows she was right: Sending a thank-you note not only displays impeccable manners but also may give job hopefuls an edge over other applicants. While nearly nine out of 10 of executives polled said sending a thank-you note following an interview can boost a job seeker's chances, they also estimate that half of applicants fail to do so. The good news: More candidates are following up post-interview today than five years ago. The national poll included responses from 150 senior executives -- including those from human resources, finance and marketing departments -- with the nation's one thousand largest companies. It was conducted by an independent research firm and developed by Accountemps.
