National Park(ing) Day Announced for 2007

Cities across America will gain temporary new downtown parks for a few hours in September, thanks to a public project sponsored by a national conservation nonprofit.

On National Park(ing) Day -- Friday, September 21st -- metered public parking spots nationwide will become public parks.

The goals, organizers say, are to celebrate parks and promote the need for more parks in America's cities. Participating cities include New York City, Boston, Minneapolis, Washington D-C, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and others. Organizers are also inviting local groups to participate, expanding the opportunity from one park to a system of park(ing) parks.

Tuesday is National Night Out; Neighbors, Police Join Forces for 'America's Night Out Against Crime'

Tonight (Tuesday), citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses and local officials in over eleven-thousand communities from all 50 states, U-S territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide will join forces to mark the "24th Annual National Night Out."
