Netflix Instant Watching Feature Doubles Viewings to 10 Million in Six Weeks
'Letters from Iwo Jima,' 'Pan's Labyrinth' and 'The Good German' Added to Instant Watching Library
LOS GATOS, Calif., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), the world's largest online movie rental service, today announced a significant milestone in the feature that allows people to watch movies and television episodes instantly on their personal computer. As of August 22, Netflix members have watched movies and TV episodes 10 million times on their PCs, doubling the number of viewings in the last six weeks. A phased rollout of the instant watching feature began in January and by July 7 had generated five million views.
The company attributed the rapid acceleration of instant watching viewership to more subscribers becoming aware of the feature and the influx of exciting new titles such as the feature films "Letters from Iwo Jima," "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Good German" and the hit BBC TV show "The Office" starring Ricky Gervais.
Every day Netflix adds more titles for members' enjoyment.
As with the Netflix 85,000 title DVD library, members can browse movies available to watch instantly by title, genre or star rating. Personalized recommendations, based on an individual's historical preferences, also appear at the top of the member's home page tabbed "Watch Instantly."
