PORTLAND, Ore., June 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ:RENT) today announced that its Rentrak Theatrical unit is now collecting real time box office sales data from theatre locations in Hong Kong and India, a motion picture industry first. Concurrently, the company announced the appointment of Steve Perrin, Ph.D., as Rentrak Theatrical's new Senior Vice President, International.

Both Kong Hong and India are highly regarded by the industry as growing and important markets and serve as gateways to other major Asian markets in the future. For the first time, industry executives will be able to access real time data from these markets, including both studio and Bollywood releases in India. Rentrak's studio clients will have near real time access to much needed instant feedback that is so important in today's changing world and will aid in faster decision making.

Steve Perrin, a 27 year industry veteran with extensive experience in distribution and exhibition, most recently served as Deputy Head of Distribution and Exhibition of the U.K. Film Council. Perrin is a key strategic hire for Rentrak Theatrical as the company continues to expand operations and services further into international territories, especially in Asia where the company expects to begin servicing additional countries in the near future. Perrin will oversee all international operations programs for Box Office Essentials(TM), the motion picture industry's original real-time box office data tracking and analysis package. Earlier in his career, Perrin worked for Nielsen EDI as Senior Vice President where he developed the company's first international box office reporting service, helped develop their International markets and oversaw operations for a number of years.

Perrin, who will be based in London, is responsible for management of international territory development and operations, and reports to Ron Giambra, senior vice president, Theatrical Worldwide at Rentrak.
