Newt Says He is Likely to Run for President in 2008

Newt Gingrich talks plans of 2008 run on 90.9 KCBI's "Jerry Johnson Live"

DALLAS, May 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich talked today with Dr. Jerry Johnson of "Jerry Johnson Live," a Dallas radio talk show. During the interview, Newt said that he will "probably" run for presidency in 2008. With a book signing event in Dallas tonight for his latest book, Pearl Harbor, Gingrich begins a book tour across several key states. Many have noted that the book tour includes campaign states, which raises the question about Gingrich's intentions in the coming days leading up to the 2008 run.

Text follows:

[On running for President in 2008]

Dr. Johnson: "I know you've avoided this, but let's talk about what your plan is."

Gingrich: "... on the 30th of September, we'll look to see if there is a requirement for a citizen candidate who is committed to bold language and clearer solutions...and if there is, I'll probably end up running..."

Gingrich also blasted U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's comments on Iraq and our troop's efforts.

Text follows:

[On Reid's comments]

Dr. Johnson: "I want to ask you, Speaker Gingrich, about leadership for just a moment and the need for leadership in America ... I want you to listen to two Harry Reid quotes, and I'm going to ask you a question about them."

[Reid CLIP 1: "This war is lost."]

Dr. Johnson: "That's Harry Reid on Iraq. Now here is Harry Reid on the Democrats...in the senate trying to bring back the troops."

[Reid CLIP 2: "I don't think there's any way you could stretch saying whatever we decide to do in this legislation is a defeat..."]

Dr. Johnson: "In a time of war, how do you feel about the leader of the senate seeming eager to wave the white flag for his country and our troops, not willing to acknowledge defeat for his own party?"

Gingrich: "No one in World War two would have talked like Senator Reid... it would have been absolutely unthinkable."
