Motorola Technology Displayed at The Cable Show 2007 Allows Customers to Mobilize Rich Content Experiences
LAS VEGAS, May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- From pausing a high-definition program and moving it to a mobile device for a cross-country flight, to instantly buying a featured product on a TV show, Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) is demonstrating new technologies that enable media mobility for cable customers.
Motorola will showcase the technologies and products that are the foundation of this connected consumer experience at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association's The Cable Show in Las Vegas this week.

Motorola will showcase solutions that enable cable operators to maximize bandwidth, resolve network issues and extend unique and innovation services to the customer's living room. Motorola's booths, located at #1452, #221 and ES1, will showcase mobile video experiences such as the company's Follow Me TV(TM) solution, which allows customers to move content between rooms in the home and to portable devices.
As interactive applications for the connected home increase in popularity, Motorola is providing an environment and software for testing these experiences before they are deployed. The new OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP(TM)) Simulator and Software Development Kit (SDK) allows cable companies and application developers to participate in a collaborative environment to build customized TV software solutions and deliver a more personalized consumer experience.
With more applications comes the need for more bandwidth. And as consumers download more video, more music and more games, network operators must optimize their networks for ultimate performance. Motorola is helping cable operators maximize bandwidth through three technologies:
-- Motorola's RF Sentry(TM) is a new PC-based application that helps
operators maintain DOCSIS(R)-based networks and subscriber
environments. By displaying data graphically, RF Sentry helps operators
make rapid performance adjustments, continually optimize bandwidth, and
streamline maintenance activities
-- A new software release for supporting the channel bonding within
DOCSIS(R) 3.0 on installed BSR 64000 systems, which allows cable
operators to deliver more than 145 Mbps to a single cable modem. With a
simple software install, existing BSR 64000 customers with 2:8 modules
can now leverage standards-based, downstream channel bonding for
improved bandwidth
-- Motorola's Cable PON technology, a combined hybrid fiber-coax and
passive optical network (PON) architecture allows operators to extend
service via PON while setting the stage for seamless evolution to
Motorola's proven GPON enabled fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) platform,
while utilizing resources already in place.
To help consumers time-shift their content, Motorola will show the recent integration of its B-1(TM) Video Server with the SeaChange Axiom 4.0 on-demand management software. Acting in concert, the hardware and software components make it possible to manage and automate every aspect of on-demand video delivery, from video streaming, to billing, to advertising. This capacity, along with the unique, solid-state architecture of the B-1 Server, offers a compelling solution to operators looking to support the increasing demand for video-on-demand and advanced on-demand video services.
Motorola will demonstrate the DCH series of digital cable receivers. Introduced earlier this year, Motorola's set tops deliver high-definition video, surround-sound audio, a hard drive for time-shifting of TV shows and storage of customer-created media, and advanced processing. The DCH receivers also enable the Motorola Follow Me TV experience, which lets consumers place- shift video, pictures, music and more throughout the home and to compatible mobile devices. The products support CableCARD(TM) technology, Motorola's Linux-Java(TM) software platform and the Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP)(TM) initiative.
Motorola will demonstrate the first application on its Seamless Mobility Applications Server (SMAS) - Caller ID, which allows users to view incoming caller ID notifications and call logs on their television screens. The Motorola SMAS enables seamless delivery of applications and services regardless of access type, network or device through a modular, scalable architecture.
In addition to the technology displays, five Motorola executives will join four panel sessions to share insights on how to deliver a more engaging, interactive and enjoyable experience:
