NJ General Assembly Honors Comcast Cable During National Volunteer Month
Greenwald /Lampitt Resolution Recognizes Comcast Cable New Jersey for Outstanding Community Initiatives and Employee Volunteerism
E. WINDSOR, N.J., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- NJ Assemblyman Louis D. Greenwald and NJ Assemblywoman Pamela R. Lampitt issued an Assembly Resolution honoring Comcast Cable New Jersey in recognition of its community service throughout the Garden State. The resolution, issued as part of April's National Volunteerism Month, salutes Comcast and its employees for their "outstanding community initiatives in benefit of those in need."
Greenwald and Lampitt saluted Comcast for a wide range of community activities, including its current partnership with AMVETS, Operation DVD and the NJ Legislature to help collect DVDs and CDs for American troops serving overseas. In 2006, Comcast helped prepare a special holiday shipment of 7,000 DVDs for soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and this month, Comcast is extending its involvement by providing drop boxes in New Jersey payment centers across the state and promoting the initiative through employees and customers.
The Resolution also recognizes Comcast for year-long efforts and special campaigns including:
-- Sponsorship of Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey's "Shout Down
Drugs!" campaign, where high school students create and perform music
with an anti-drug message
-- "Bundle Up and Share the Warmth," a February 2007 initiative that
helped raise and distribute more than 6,000 coats to NJ residents in
need, in partnership with United Way and Burlington Coat Factory
-- Comcast's "Leaders & Achievers" Scholarship Program which, since 2000,
has provided more than $900,000 in scholarships to NJ high school
seniors for college tuition
-- Comcast Cares Day, an annual company-wide day of volunteer service that
in 2006 saw more than 800 Comcast New Jersey employees and their
friends and family donate more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service
through 18 projects throughout the state
-- Donation of free services and wiring of more than 2,000 schools and
libraries throughout the state
"Year after year, Comcast demonstrates a strong commitment to serving our local communities and to using its resources to bring visibility to important issues," said Greenwald. "The combined impact of these initiatives makes a tremendous difference, and the strength and success of New Jersey depends on dedicated organizations like Comcast contributing toward our common good."
"From college scholarships to its annual volunteer day, Comcast demonstrates that it is a corporate citizen committed to improving the communities it serves," said Lampitt.
"This tribute belongs to our thousands of New Jersey employees who go above and beyond every day to demonstrate their commitment to our customers and our communities," said Greg Arnold, regional senior vice president, Comcast Cable New Jersey. "We are extremely proud and appreciative of the Assembly's recognition, and look forward to continuing to serve and support the state of New Jersey."
Comcast Cable employs more than 4,650 people in New Jersey, and earlier this year announced that it will hire an additional 750 employees in 2007. Its New Jersey Region contributes more than $2 million annually through hundreds of local partnerships, grants and free wiring of more than 2,000 schools and libraries in New Jersey.
