All-Star Concert Celebrating Ella Fitzgerald Set for Galen Center on April 29

LOS ANGELES, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- "We Love Ella! A Tribute To The First Lady of Song," an all-star concert celebrating the 90th birthday of the late Ella Fitzgerald, will take place on April 29 at 7 p.m. at USC's new Galen Center.

Performers will include Natalie Cole, k.d. lang, Quincy Jones, Nancy Wilson, Cyndi Lauper, Take 6, Wynonna Judd, Ruben Studdard, Patti Austin, Lizz Wright, Monica Mancini, Dave Koz, George Duke, James Moody and the USC Thornton Symphony and Jazz Orchestra, plus a special surprise guest.

Tickets are priced at $125, $100, $75 and $50. USC faculty and staff get a $5 savings, and USC students receive a $10 savings.

The concert will be delay broadcast nationally on public television on June 9 at 9 p.m. ET as part of Thirteen/WNET New York's Great Performances series (check local listings). The broadcast is part of a widespread celebration that also includes the June 5 release of Verve's "We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song," a star-studded tribute produced by Phil Ramone featuring many of the artists appearing at the USC concert.

Proceeds from the concert support the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation.

For more than half a century, Ella Fitzgerald packed houses around the world with her peerless delivery of ballads, pop standards and straight-ahead jazz. With her incomparable voice and astonishing technique, the beloved "First Lady of Song" consistently ranked among the top female jazz artists in the United States, garnering 13 Grammy Awards and selling more than 40 million albums.

This is the third concert hosted at the Galen Center, the home of USC basketball and volleyball, since its opening in the fall of 2006. Previous concerts were Al Green and then Gnarls Barkley and the Flaming Lips.
