An invitation-only reception and screening of HBO's innovative multimedia campaign, "Addiction," will be hosted by HBO in partnership with A Safe Haven, a Chicago organization that houses people recovering from alcoholism and substance abuse. The event will preview the centerpiece documentary of the campaign, focusing on addiction from policy, science, and human standpoints.

"Addiction" will also be simulcast in all 14 Illinois state prisons for inmates and staff on March 15.

The "Addiction" campaign provides an in-depth look into the complex dimensions of addiction, treatment, and recovery. In addition to interviews with the nation's leading experts, the documentary and its supplemental content explore innovative family training and treatment approaches, successful drug court programs that reduce relapses and re-arrests; addiction in the workplace; the protracted insurance battles waged by families; and the difficulty of finding and getting adequate treatment.

"Addiction" makes its television debut Thursday, March 15. The 90-minute documentary premiering at the Palmer House is part of a multimedia awareness and information campaign that will include:

-- A website featuring original articles, documentary footage, and
treatment information
-- A supplementary series of 13 short films available on HBO On Demand
-- A four-DVD set including the centerpiece documentary and 13-part
series
-- A companion book published by Rodale Press
-- A 30-city community outreach campaign
